Why did he make such a decision and what could it lead to?

Fernando Alonso is going to Aston Martin.

Two-time world champion in the Formula 1 Fernando Alonso will drive for Aston Martin from next season.

He signed a multi-year contract.

This season Alonso is driving for Alpine. In the drivers championship, the driver is on the 10th line, having 41 points.

Alonso will replace Sebastian Vettel in the new team, who previously announced his retirement from f1 after this season.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso commented on the decision to sign a multi-year contract with the Aston Martin team. Earlier it was believed that he is close to a contract with Alpine.

Fernando Alonso: "The Aston Martin team obviously puts energy and dedication into winning, which makes it one of the most exciting teams in F1 right now. I have known Lawrence and Lance for many years, and it is obvious that they have the ambition and passion to succeed in Formula 1. I've watched the team systematically attract cool people with a winning resume, and I'm aware of how the team invested in the new infrastructure at Silverstone.
No one in Formula 1 shows more vision and absolute dedication to winning, so this is a great opportunity for me. I still have the hunger and ambition to fight ahead, and I want to be part of an organization that is dedicated to learning, development and success. We all understand that there is still a lot to do to get ahead. We must put all our energy into working together.
I saw the passion and desire to succeed — this is what convinced me to maintain the same level of dedication to our sport and get the same pleasure from it. I intend to win again in this sport and therefore I must use the opportunities that I consider right for myself”.
