Mick Schumacher: "I am very excited to be part of the Mercedes team as a backup driver in 2023. I will do my best to contribute to the work of the team in conditions of high competition with rivals.
This is a new start for me, so I am excited and grateful to Toto and everyone involved for the trust they have placed in me. Formula 1 is a fascinating world in which you never stop learning, so I am looking forward to the opportunity to gain new knowledge and make every effort in the interests of the Mercedes team”.
Toto Wolff: "Mick is a talented young driver and we are glad that he has joined the team. He is hardworking, he has a calm and methodical approach, while he still wants to learn and improve as a driver. These are very important qualities, and we are glad that he will help us in finalizing the W14.
In addition, having two years of experience in Formula 1, Mick is ready to get behind the wheel as soon as possible and, if necessary, replace Lewis or George”.
